In Ireland, employment in construction increased 80% in five years. However, according to the new data from the Central Statistics Office, employment in Ireland construction sector has fallen 11.7% in one year.
The majority of foreign people are working in the construction sector. In September 2007, the construction sector created 26000 jobs in Ireland for migrant workers. With approximately 280,000 workers, the construction sector is really important for Ireland’s economy.
The main objective is continuing and maintaining this growth thanks to new construction projects.
One of the most important infra-structure projects is the creation of the metro system in Dublin city, and the integration with the light rail system LUAS. This will generate lots of new employment in the Irish jobs market.
Two lines have been proposed - metro north and metro west. Construction begins in 2008 and will be completed in 2014.
